She attributes this in large to her varied professional and personal experiences – experiences that have seen her providing psychological services to both the general population and some of society’s most disadvantaged, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders; survivors of human trafficking; young people; and those from non-English speaking backgrounds. She has worked in various settings across Australia and overseas and has also been responsible for directing and supervising a large clinical team for one of Australia’s busiest mental health services.
Emma has undertaken advanced training in Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Addictions, Bereavement. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Sexual Diversity, Cultural Awareness & Competence, Mindfulness and Positive Psychology, Psychosis in young people, Suicide & Self-harm. She is an Associate Member of the Australian Psychological Society and the Golden Key International Academic Society.
Emma has also held membership on a number of reference groups and committees, usually those that aim to overcome some of the specific concerns faced by various communities on the Gold Coast. Emma has also been responsible for establishing the Gold’s Coast first youth-specific Mental Health Professionals Network.
In working with the wonderful team at Haan Health Medical Centre, Emma offers individual counselling and therapy to people aged 12 and upward. Anyone can self-refer to the service and/or be referred by their General Practitioner or Psychiatrist under the Medicare Care Benefits Scheme or the Access to Allied Psychological Services Program (a program that hand-picks it’s professionals).
When she is not working, Emma enjoys activities such bushwalking, running, yoga & meditation, overseas travel, learning new skills, and on the top of her list being with family and friends.
